Best Pest Control | Cockroaches
There are several different types of cockroaches in the Wellington region, including Gisborne, oriental, native bush, German, and American roaches.
Cockroaches are a serious health risk and carry diseases. They are bearers of pathogens such as salmonella, E. coli, hepatitis E, diarrhoea, dysentery and staphylococcus. They have been linked to outbreaks of gastroenteritis, typhus and skin diseases, and are particularly associated with the transfer of bacteria on their legs from dirty areas to food and food preparation surfaces. Contact with cockroaches can lead to a number of allergic illnesses, including dermatitis, rhinitis, bronchitis and asthma.
Unlike other insects, cockroaches are a problem all year round. they thrive in heat and humidity in areas like kitchens, bathrooms and laundries. Cockroaches have simple needs: food, warmth, moisture and shelter.
Cockroaches undergo 3 stages of development: egg, nymph and adult. The egg hatches into a nymph, which looks similar to the adult cockroach. The nymph then undergoes a series of moults before developing into a fully reproductive adult cockroach. The length of this process varies, and may take anywhere between a few weeks to a year to complete the cycle. Female cockroaches are able to lay hundreds of eggs in their lifetime.
Our Treatment Programs
Each property is different, so we assess the problem and then formulate an Individually designed program to fit each customer’s specific needs.
While having a dirty house can extend a cockroach’s stay, having a clean one won’t guarantee that you won’t get them. Cockroaches and their eggs can come into your home in a number of ways, including through cracks, crevices, vents and pipes, and even on things like new or second-hand appliances, and electrical goods, grocery bags, boxes and on our shoes.
